Before Xmas when we were talking about the new LT
(oyster and cash) fares I was speculating about what the tube-add-on would be. I was back at home this weekend for the first time since the fare rise so I though I'd check. Single to London: 8 quid. To Zone 1: 11.90! Eh, 3.90 extra, that can't be right! Day Return fare London: 9 quid Zone 1: the same 11:90 that must be the travelcard fare then. The machine must be programmed wrong, so I'm none the wiser. What is the experience of other people as to what the tube add on from other out of London stations is? And whilst I'm here, I tried the travelcard railcard fare to be greeted with: "That fare is only available at weekends". But it's over 10 quid and a discount is available, can't they bother to program these machines properly - it can't be that hard. Tim |

What is the experience of other people as to what the tube add on from other out of London stations is? From Cambridge to London Terminals: Cheap day single £17.50 From Cambridge to Zone 1: Cheap day single £20.50 So the add-on for a single zone-1 tube journey is £3, which is of course the same as a cash fare for that journey. This is a rip-off. A tube-add on to a NR ticket doesn't require the (supposedly expensive) use of a LU ticket office or ticket machine. It's effectively an electronic payment to LU from the TOC selling the NR ticket. So why not charge the same as the Oyster fare of £1.50? PaulO |
