I'd also like to add the Waterloo & City, which I believe is (bar the section of the Northern between Stockwell and somewhere south of London Bridge) the oldest deep-level line on the network. Just out of interest, I passed through Moorgate yesterday and noticed 2 terminating platforms (I think numnbers 3 and 4) between the Met/Circle and Thameslink lines. What exactly are/were they for? |

Terminating. A few years back, the timetable contained "runs as required" paths for specials from Moorgate to Putney Bridge via Edgware Road, for when Chelsea are playing at home to a team from GNER or Midland Mainline territory. I don't know if these paths are still booked, or used. |

I thought most would change @ Earls Court for the Pic line Why would they want to change trains for an 11-station journey instead of remaining on the same train for a 9-station journey? It would probably have to appear on platform displays as "Edgware Road" at least up to Earl's Court, but if it said Moorgate on the front and there were announcements on board and on the platforms at Fulham Broadway and Earl's Court that it would be going via KXSP, there's a fair chance that people would get the message. I can't see any sign of it, however, in the Ditrict WTT129 (September 2002), which is the latest one I have. -- Richard J. (to e-mail me, swap uk and yon in address) |

Many years ago, off peak Metropolitan trains all terminated at Baker Street. In the peaks, trains from Chesham terminated at Moorgate, trains from Amersham terminated at Liverpool Street (platform now covered in offices) and trains from Uxbridge and Watford terminated at Aldgate. Is there a similar fixed pattern nowadays in the peaks, or do a whole variety of services terminate at Moorgate? |

Is there a similar fixed pattern nowadays in the peaks, There is off-peak, but not during the peaks - trains to/from any of the four branches can start/terminate at either Baker Street or Aldgate. Another thing that's variable (I think) is what stations trains to/from Watford stop at between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Finchley Road (either all, none, or just Wembley Park). or do a whole variety of services terminate at Moorgate? Trains are rarely scheduled to terminate at Moorgate nowadays - it's unpopular as trains terminating there have to cross the westbound track. It's mostly used for turning back late running trains heading towards Aldgate to bring them back on time. |
