Default Resignalling the Richmond branch?

In message . com,

Agreed. There are far too many bases for a standard 4-aspect MAS
installation; something strange is definitely happening.

Could it be that they are using the opportunity to prepare for the
possible extension of North London Line services to Kingston? That would
eventually entail new points at Richmond, with appropriate additional
signalling.
