Recently TfL "lost interest" in publishing these guide books!. That's a
suprise, they never seem to finnish anything before giving up! Recent books have been L2 Bruce Grove (Feb 06) and L3 Clapton (Mar 06) But I believe one other has been issued (Out of L1 Cockfosters, L8 Abbey Wood, L10 Camberwell, L11 Blackheath, L12 Anerley, L14 Addington, L20 Feltham and L26 Archway. Idea's anyone? In late 2001 underground stations had "Continuing your journey from ###" then "Street map of ###" and lately most Z1 stations have "CYJ"s again.Having put up special racks for these leaflets, why do many stations not have any for month's /years, don't managers audit things like this? |

I once asked at a tube station about something like this, and was told they decided not to order any more.... when I asked why, I was told "because when we put them out, they all went". |

Idea's anyone? I found guide L14, covering the Croydon area, on my doormat yesterday and very useful it is too. Looks like it was published in March this year. The book suggests that there are 28 books available covering the whole London area. Do these not really exist or is it just that they haven't been updated lately? |

The book suggests that there are 28 books available covering the whole London area. Do these not really exist or is it just that they haven't been updated lately? The complete series of 28 has never been completed - only 20 have been produced. TfL have now decided to scrap these books and instead provide a preface in local Yellow Pages directories. That will probably be a waste of time too. Apparently everyone uses the Internet for travel info these days - funny can't recall the last time I could put the Internet in my bag or in my pocket for free. The next victim of TfL's publicity jihad is the Quadrant Bus Map which is targeted for withdrawal. In addition TfL no longer stock the excellent London Wide Map produced by Mike Harris in their Travel Information Centres so Mike can no longer justify updating the map 2 or 3 times a year. The next update is late this year. www.busmap.co.uk for interest. All the panel timetables (also allegedly withdrawn from public use although you can get them via a Freedom of Information request!) are on Mike's site as well. The Bus Station at Walthamstow has quite a range of these guides on display (inside the inspector's office) but TfL certainly used to impose a limit of only 3 books being handed over per request which is equally barking mad. No one has been able to justify or explain this limit or why if you walk away from the window having obtained 3 books and then return 5 minutes later they will give you another 3! The whole publicity strategy for TfL bus services is awful - IMO, of course. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |
