I have been informed that a mock up of the 2009 stock is being assembled
outside Euston Station. That is all I know. I saw it being 'wheeled' in on a lorry last night (around midnight, as I was passing through on the no. 10 bus to Kings Cross) and it's certainly short! It has a set of doors missing, presumably a mock-up that can be moved about easily!! Should have got a photo, but I guess TfL will have plenty of hi-res ones available very soon! Jonathan |

An internal memo just published says the following :- "The Victoria Line upgrade will see a fleet of 47 bigger, state of the art eight car trains introduced into service from 2009 and 2012. As part of the development of the new rolling stock, one of Metronet's contractual obligations [1] is to conduct Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT). From Monday 17 July, stakeholders will have the change to see a mock up carriage at Euston Square, outside Euston mainline station. We have arranged three exclusive viewing dates for staff : Friday 21 July 07.00 - 10.00 Wednesday 26 July 13.00 - 17.00 Tuesday 1 August 16.00 - 19.00 The mock up will be sited in a marquee designed to resemble a platform. Visual displays around the venue will highlight key aspects of the investment programme, the upgrade and the new train. There will be a plasma screen running a short animation depicting the experience of riding on a new Victoria Line train, and managers will be there to answer your questions. There is no need for an appointment, simply come along and show your staff pass to enter the secure site. The CAT itself will take place from 21 July to 3 August. The mock up will then be open to the general public until Thursday 11 August." [1] a bit of the contract I was involved in getting written in! Hope that helps. I shall pop along to see how small and uncomfortable the seats are for those of us of "larger" proportions ! -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

(snip) [1] a bit of the contract I was involved in getting written in! I'm glad to hear that someone managed to slip at least one sensible clause into an infraco contract! Perhaps it's time to 'fess up' and tell us what else you and your right thinking colleagues got past the common-sense filter that was installed at 55 Broadway during the PPP negotiations ;-) |

Last time I got close to doing that I got a load of abuse from some noggin about ticket gates - I'm not going there again. I ended up having to unsubscribe for a while. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

I'm not expecting you to disclose all the intriguing and dirty details of LU's inner workings, however much I'd be fascinated to read about them. I'm not sure fascination is the quite the right word. Incidentally, and whilst I'm in complimentary mood, I must say I've greatly enjoyed reading some of your comments in/on* threads from the past (courtesy of the time travelling machine that is google groups) - thank you - several people seem to enjoy my rantings. of course not forgetting the contributions of many other regulars - so much so that I've found myself frustrated I wasn't a participant at the time and able to post my own witterings. It's enlightening to get the insiders analsis. that would be analysis would it? the other word suggests something else :-) So don't unsubscribe as I've got lots of inane questions to come! unsubscribes ;-) -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

Does anyone know why 2009 stock is being named after the year when it will be introduced, when previous stock seems been named after the year when it was ordered (eg D78 stock introduced in 1980 and so on)? |

I can't help but wonder why they didn't use a disused platform at Holborn, Charing Cross or Liverpool Street. Presumably because all of those platforms are sectioned off from the remainder of the stations in question and there may be issues about allowing large volumes of people into those areas which are not normally publicly accessible. It would also require people to hold tickets to enter real platform areas while the Euston Square display will not require payment. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |
