I was only offering a sensible alternative. I don't drive but even if I did I would not dream of going to Kingston by car. Bus and train services are perfectly adequate and have the advantage of not costing anything like £15 for parking. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

But not much good unless you don't mind schlepping all your shopping home by hand. Well plenty of people do get their shopping home by bus, train and tube every day of the week. I think too many people have simply become enslaved to using their cars to do the shopping - it isn't necessary and other modes and ways of running your life can easily reduce the need for car borne shopping. I personally find it a bit amazing that the OP's other half can shop for virtually a whole day in Kingston but hey it takes all sorts. I accept that over such a long period she may have bought so much that it is beyond the capability of a human being to carry all the purchases! -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

As the OP is schlepping their shopping around for 11 (yes, eleven) hours, going home on the train seems the easy part. tim Ian |

Don't think of the car as transport, think of it as a place to store the shopping. |

Presumably, they keep going back to the car and storing it in the boot whenever it gets too much to carry. Then off to buy some more. That *is* the normal way of shopping. How else are you going to buy two or three times the amount you can carry in one day? |

It's the 11 hour shopping marathon I'm having trouble with- I tend to get fed up to the back teeth after 3 or 4 hours wandering around shops. As to leaving stuff in the car, I'd rather buy less than have to return to the car once or twice- I don't like leaving anything in the car that the thieving scrotes could get their hands on... -- Kenny |

I'm quite surprised that nobody's yet suggested that the OP's other half gets the bus/train/whatever to the shops in the morning, then the OP collects her by car (assuming she has too large a haul to make PT feasible) at the end of the day. |
