I caught a bit of the news last night and they showed Tony Blair
speaking at the Mansion House dinner claiming that the City and the government must work together to make sure that Crossrail gets built. However, his stuff about Iraq has got all the press and even the official transcript of the speech on the Number 10 website makes no mention of Crossrail. Did I just imagine it, or did anyone else hear it too? Patrick |

Very good point so why has he done naff all about it in the last 9 years. He waits until he is sodding off then says that something must be done. Just like all the other nulabour failures. "the City and the government must work together" - sounds to me like code for "the City must put up more money". -- Richard J. (to email me, swap 'uk' and 'yon' in address) |

Did businesses actually ever put any money into it? Kevin |

Looks like they have already paid 100 million and owe another 300 million over the next 20-odd years: http://www.publications.parliament.u...70616w02_sbhd2 David |

The real issue is that neither side wishes to blink first in terms of financial contributions so the whole process is at a standstill and will remain so for years to come. It's pathetic. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

I actually prefer major construction projects to have settled plans and permission from all landowners involved before they start being built. -- http://www.election.demon.co.uk "We can also agree that Saddam Hussein most certainly has chemical and biolog- ical weapons and is working towards a nuclear capability. The dossier contains confirmation of information that we either knew or most certainly should have been willing to assume." - Menzies Campbell, 24th September 2002. |

I actually prefer major construction projects to have settled plans and permission from all landowners involved before they start being built. I always find it rather bizarre that the planners will spend decades postulating about something then give some poor contractor the job of implementing the scheme on a tight schedule, keep interfering with the implementation then beat the contractor up when the project gets delayed. I always think wouldn't it be great if they spent half as long screwing around before construction starts then allow longer to do the difficult stuff. What the betting that the Olympics are finished in one final mad dash with hundreds of millions of lottery money being thrown at it to finish on time. Come to think of it we know that already.
