"Coventry's players had to travel on London Underground's Central Line to reach their game at QPR on time after their team coach became stranded. "We were told the bus was stuck in traffic so we decided to get on the tube," said manager Micky Adams. "We bought 23 single tickets at Hanger Lane station and our unsung hero was Jay Tabb, who knew we had to change at Hammersmith to go to Shepherd's Bush. "I feel a bit sorry for him as well, as I did not even put him in the team." Adams added: "We took a bit of stick from West Ham and Fulham fans and got to the ground at 2.20pm, went on to the pitch and won 1-0. "Everyone talks about preparation but this proves it is a load of nonsense." Or more likely the BBC doesn't understand the tube map or the fact the Central Line is shut today. -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

There might be a bus that goes along the A40. They might even be running a special one if the Central Line is closed. Easier would have been for them to get a few minicabs. Surely even Coventry City can afford that? |

Well indeed - the article refers to the Central Line which was shut. There is then a quote that refers to one of the players being "a hero" for knowing to go via Hammersmith (Picc then H&C). There might be a bus that goes along the A40. They might even be running a special one if the Central Line is closed. The 95 but I imagine it was as stuck as their coach was. Easier would have been for them to get a few minicabs. Surely even Coventry City can afford that? Which would then presumably get caught in the West London traffic quagmire? -- Paul C Admits to working for London Underground! |

I went to the game via the H&C at Hammersmith as there were no Wimbleware trains. Must have missed seeing the team by a matter of minutes. There might be a bus that goes along the A40. They might even be running a special one if the Central Line is closed. Easier would have been for them to get a few minicabs. Surely even Coventry City can afford that? I think the problem was traffic, rather than cost. I got into the ground about five minutes before kick-off, and there were a lot of people still coming in 20-30 minutes into the game, presumably held up in traffic. BTN |

I guess if nobody could go anywhere but being fit footballers they could have done a little training exercise and ran the rest of the way. Might even beat the tube. (Bicycle would of course be the ideal mode of transport). |
