I was thinking you could leave the car at home and take the Eurostar train
to London. Of course, if you live north of Paris, this may not be a good
idea!

Where do you live in France? Flying or Eurostar may be worthy of
consideration, and both can be very cheap when booked in advance.

If you live near a port with a direct service to Folkestone or Dover
ferry and train may well be the best option, though.
