I was told last night that under the Lewisham Centre is provision for
an underground station built in preparation for the terminus of the Fleet Line (now the Jubilee and running to Stratford) in the late 1970s. The former childrens play area in the sunken section in the middle is suposedly the entrance. I've looked on google and found plenty of references to the Fleet line's proposed destination of Lewisham (and even some further extensions beyond that). I also found references to a trial section of tube tunnel at New Cross which would have been on the alignment. But nothing of the station at Lewisham. Is anyone able to shed any light on whether there is any truth in this rumour? regards HN28 |
