In reply to news post, which Barry Salter
wrote on Sun, 31 Dec 2006 - It remains to be seen if that remains the case when the new "S" stock is introduced, mind you. Classic example occurred on Thursday I wouldn't be surprised to find that the 16:30, 16:40, 17:00 and 17:10 departures from Baker Street were all virtually empty though. Am not sure if the S Stock is going to be liked by the longer distance commuter as there are going to be fewer seats and the seats don't look as comfortable. People may still prefer Chiltern. However, if more Met services run (as has been promised) and the journey is faster, perhaps more will use the Met for long distance. At the moment, owing to the times of the trains in the peak hours and the difference in journey times (Chiltern much faster), there is often no point going to Baker Street. Even if you have a 35 minute wait at Marylebone (miss the 18:06, next service for met stations not till 18:40) it is quicker to stay at Marylebone. There is a train from Baker Street at about 18:25 but it nearly always get beaten by the later Chiltern service. The lack of information about the next service north from either Baker Street or Marylebone is appalling, no indication at either station about the other service, makes the Wembley park problems look simple! So much for an integrated transport service! PS, if anyone wants to see some S Stock pictures, there are some at http://www.amersham.org.uk/forum/ipb...?showtopic=372 I think the design has been tweaked again since these -- Matthew P Jones www.ThisIsAmersham.com www.amersham.org.uk www.metroland.org.uk Don't reply directly it will not be read.
