The Piccadilly Line was already getting hammered due to severe overcrowding from the Distict Line passengers taking an alternative route due to the service suspension between Earls Court and Whitechapel. So I guess this was the last straw as they say! |

Yes, a train stalled in the tunnel between Knightsbridge and South Ken W/B. I've often wondered about this "stalling". How exactly does an EMU constisting of 4 seperate power cars "stall"? The whole point of EMUs compared to locomotives is that if one power car fails you've got X others that keep going. Or is stall simply a euphamism for "somethings broken, we don't know what and the train won't move"? B2003 |

![]() It was a truly "wonderful" evening for me - I was to meet my mother at Heathrow, so... - when changing from Central to Piccadilly at Holborn I heard that Piccadilly was suspended between Hammersmith and Cockfosters - I went back to Central (slowly walking in a huge crowd), went to Oxford Circus, and changed to Bakerloo - went to Baker Street and after 10 minutes wait (I thought there was supposed to be more frequent service on that day, not less frequent!!!) changed to Hammersmith & City - realized that I don't know whether Piccadilly is running from Hammersmith or from Turnham Green (what exactly between means here?) so switched to District at Edgware Road - another 10 minutes wait in some train without any indication of the destination (why the hell Hammersmith&City/Circle trains serve this part of the District?) and I'm on my way to Earl's Court - Earl's Court is severely overcrowded, waiting another 10-ish minutes for District train to Ealing Broadway (the announcer recommends to change to Piccadilly at Acton Town, so I suppose my decision to skip Hammersmith was correct) - train arrives at the wrong platform, but at least it really goes to Ealing Broadway - one station later train stops for yet another 10 minutes (passenger alarm on the previous train - *%^£$(%*£!!!!) - finally train arrives at Acton Town, I run into Piccadilly train standing across the platform (like a LOT of other people), and the train goes - TO UXBRIDGE (there was no indication on the train, and no announcement from the driver until the doors closed...) - I exit at Ealing Common, go to opposite platform, wait for the train for yet another 10 minutes, and then District line train comes - but the train is "not in service"... ******!!! - 5 minutes later Piccadilly line train finally arrives, I go back to Acton Town (where that train terminates, so the platform is once again overcrowded), change to opposite platform, finally get a train clearly marked "Heathrow", and after just 5 minutes of standing at the platform train departs... - some time later I'm finally at Heathrow (phew!) and find out that my mother's plane was delayed due to "lack of available gates" in Heathrow's Terminal 1, and despite being 90 minutes late I was only 15 minutes late to her actual arrival ("phew!" 3 times) On our way back Piccadilly was so overcrowded, that we skipped our stop. But at least that was on the road home... |

Train stalled going round the South Ken bends WB (possibly high or missing shoes, it seems to have gapped itself) control reversed one west to east at Kings Cross and the points failed to normalise after the passage of the train. Que one broken railway. I got in at 21:30 to take the Arnos desk, by which time everything was on the move with an emergency timetable in operation. That was a fun way to end my week of nights... -- Cheers, Steve. Change from jealous to sad to reply. |
