I saw this yesterday - TfL has introduced a new wide red line at the
bus stop on Wilton Rd outside Victoria station, which indicates that taxis and Blue Badge holders - who normally have an exemption from the no stopping rule - are not allowed to stop anywhere along the wide red line. The TfL press release explains mo http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/press-cent....asp?prID=1078 A good move IMO. The press release emphasises the advantage to disabled bus users - i.e. that buses will be able to draw in next to the curb and use their ramps properly - but it also rightly points out that all passengers will benefit from this, as buses won't be held up whilst they negotiate their way around stopped vehicles (whether taxis or Blue Badge holder's vehicles). The release also states that on the Euston Road, outside Kings X, and on Bishopsgate, near Liverpool St station, "the exemptions normally extended to taxi drivers and Blue Badge holders for stopping do not apply, and therefore the introduction of the wide red line will be a purely visual change" - it also says that the new wide red line will be introduced their shortly. What seems like a slightly bizarre anomaly is that all bus stops on Borough controlled roads (i.e. non-red routes) these days have a wide yellow line, which prevents Blue Badge holders (though not taxis) from stopping on them - yet they are allowed to to stop next on bus stops on TfL controlled red routes (unless of course it's one of the designated stops on Wilton Rd, Bishopsgate or Euston Rd). I thus wonder if the new wide red line will eventually be rolled out to all bus stops on red routes. |
