Tube dissected The reasons why the London Underground was never extended to Bushey will be discussed at the next lecture at Bushey Museum this week, as the history of the tube is dissected. The talk will take place on Tuesday , starting at 8pm, and will be held in the Bushey Centre, in Bushey High Street. .................................................. .................................................. ...... It was one of several extensions planned in the 1930s, delayed by WW2, and cancelled afterwards, chiefly because Green Belt legislation meant that the areas which would have been served would not be intensively developed. Other examples are the proposed Central Line extension to Denham and the SR extension from Chessington South to Leatherhead. Peter |

The Bakerloo station was in Oxhey, though renamed in 1974 from Bushey & Oxhey to just Bushey. The Bushey Heath station on the Northern line extension would have been at the A41/ A411 junction on the site which became Aldenham bus depot. -- David Biddulph |
