There have been lots & lots of rumours about things on the underground
i.e. tube station for Buckingham Palace being one such. There are a number on several threads just so we can put them all on one thread so feel free to put what you have heard or know about. My own is that there is supposed to be a siding at St Jame's Park, which there is not there was a crossover taken out in the 1960s but further there's supposed to be a train stabled there for use in an emergency. |

Presumably the siding was filled with a clapped-out R-stock train so that Her Majesty could take a nostalgic last trip to Upminster before the nuclear fallout consumed not only Lots Road power station but everything else within a 50-mile radius! Of ALL the methods of transport likely to be used to get the Royal Family out of London, surely the Underground, with all the vicissitudes that would involve (e.g. dozens of abandoned trains all along the track) was the least likely! Marc. No it was supposed to be an F stock, the underground could be used for something it's only when the bomb was actually dropped that it ceases to be useful. |

But, in your original post, you said there is no siding (I'm sure if there was, we'd know about it by now), so is this just one of those old wives' tales then, F stock or not? Marc. |

That makes me feel old - they've been withdrawn 45 years and I can remember them is if it were yesterday. -- Bill Hayles http://billnot.com |
