The thing about Camden is that every part of it needs replacing or
expanding (as well as interchange passages, it also needs a much
larger ticket hall, more entrances, etc), so I don't think there's
anything surprising about them wanting to demolish the whole lot and
start again.

I presume the business case for new interchange passages alone isn't
that strong, or the work is harder than it looks, or they'd have done
it ages ago.

Although the present passageway layout wouldn't be able to handle the
amount of interchange traffic that would result. This is one of the main
reasons why the line hasn't been split, and the reason LU have been
pushing their Camden redevelopment masterplan.

I can't help thinking that can't be the real reason. Building a few
new passageways deep underground doesn't require the demolition of
half of Camden and building of a massive shopping centre.

They need the money from the shopping centre to fund the rest of the
work (or claim that that they can only afford it that way).

So where are the "connections from the fast lines to the slow lines
just south of where the Met line splits into the Watford and
Rickmansworth routes" described in the message I cited? Is it just a
mistake? (South being left on the above diagram.)

Use of the term "south" could be causing confusion, because Moor Park
to Rickmansworth is east - west. Everything is south of the Watford
branch. In the diagram, left is actually east, with south at the top.

I don't know what was meant, but going from Moor Park to
Rickmansworth, between the junctions with the South (ie east) and
North (ie west) Curves, the fast and slow lines join together, and
that is south of the Watford line.

You've misunderstood. The junction in question is the left of the two
stars on the top line. It's being moved south - further left.

Look on Google Earth or maps.google.co.uk - the layout is quite obvious.

A small addition to the thread - I've changed some URLs that I posted
before. To find the map use the main URL (it will remain useful):
http://www.fxfp.com/lib/tube/

This is due to the release of first test version of future extensions
map - only first phase of East London Railway so far (and Regent's
Park :-P ). But I have huge plans - for example I'm preparing
historical map for 22nd Dec 1932 (I wonder if anybody will guess all 5
reasons that made me choose that particular date?).

Was this the date of the first diagrammatical map by Harry Beck?
Or the last non-diagrammatical Tube map?

I don't think any stations or lines were opened (or closed) on that date and
the LPTB was not formed till 6 months later.
Wembley Park, Kingsbury, Queensbury, Canons Park and Stanmore were opened
near that time.
