Can anyone tell be the year in which Harringay (formerly Harringay West)
station opened? Google and Wikipedia and all my London books seem unable to give me a date (though I seem to have become an expert on unwanted data about Harringay East/Stadium/East/Green Lanes in the process! Thanks in advance -- Ian Jelf, MITG Birmingham, UK Registered Blue Badge Tourist Guide for London and the Heart of England http://www.bluebadge.demon.co.uk |

Thanks in advance According to John Young's "Great Northern Suburban" it opened on 1st May *Just* what I was after! Many thanks. (All as part of a local history walk I'm doing in Stroud Green/Harringay/Finsbury Park tomorrow and I wouldn't like railways to be missed out. Pretty hard to miss out when you're taking about the history of Finsbury Park, of course.......) -- Ian Jelf, MITG Birmingham, UK Registered Blue Badge Tourist Guide for London and the Heart of England http://www.bluebadge.demon.co.uk |

Pretty hard to miss out when you're taking about the history of Finsbury Park, of course.......) Don't forget your brolley! Actually, it wasn't too bad. The really heavy rain came at the end and Finsbury Park railway bridge provided a handy umbrella in addition to my own! Actually doing the walk (which featured a lot of the abandoned Finsbury Park - Highgate line) reminded me of what a lost opportunity the abandonment of the New Works Programme was. Tubes stations at Stroud Green and Crouch End would have been a real boon to an actually heavily populated area and some of the links would have been really useful. (Certainly more useful, I suspect, than the Mill Hill East branch has ended up being?) The Blackstock opposite the Twelve Pins isn't the most welcoming of pubs to retire to afterwards, though....... :-) -- Ian Jelf, MITG Birmingham, UK Registered Blue Badge Tourist Guide for London and the Heart of England http://www.bluebadge.demon.co.uk |

The stadium was a greyhound track, on the site that is now Sainsbury's. Fair enough. Vaguely ironically, i saw a fox there once, in the car park. tom -- information distribution, vox humana, deviation, handle, feed, l.g. ** |
