Well, I am back in town, boy is it hot!
I arrived late last night (by car) so no real problem, but I have yet to venture out. So does anyone know how its going with the overpass closure? I have been reading around, people seem to be thinking its not too bad - I guess everyone is on holiday so it probably is the best time to do it. What do people reckon though? I have to take someone to the airport tommorow for a 6 oclock flight. How much time should I leave? (Going from Hammersmith) |

I have been reading around, people seem to be thinking its not too bad - I guess everyone is on holiday so it probably is the best time to do it. I haven't been into Hammersmith itself lately but I live less than two miles away and have seen very little extra traffic anywhere in the Putney, Barnes, Mortlake, Kew or Chiswick areas. In particular, the South Circular has been quieter than I can remember it for a long time - heat and holidays, and perhaps people avoiding the area. What do people reckon though? I have to take someone to the airport tommorow for a 6 oclock flight. How much time should I leave? (Going from Hammersmith) If that's 6am you will need very little time, especially allowing for check-in! But I guess you mean pm - going out of town in latish afternoon could be slow, but the real problems would be east of Hammersmith - the traffic should be thinning out where you join the A4. Unfortunately the jam cam on Chiswick roundabout is currently off so someone who has been driving the route recently could advise better, but I doubt that it would take much longer than usual. -- Paul Terry |

However, (a) I know that last Tuesday evening (5 Aug), after good rush hours on Monday and Tuesday morning, there were bad jams on the A4 and Chiswick High Road that didn't clear until 21:00. (b) This morning (Mon 11 Aug) at 10:15, there were still jams on the A4 back to the Hogarth Roundabout, and queues back to there on the alternative routes through Chiswick. Plan B perhaps?
