Default Stratford - new DLR platforms

oups.com...

So the new station opened today (only first platform obviously). I
must say I'm quite impressed, mostly by the size of the thing - it is
much wider then it looked like from aside :-)

Now I have to pass two stairs to get to the westbound Central line
though :-|

Until they build the bridge between the end of platform 3 and the new
platform 4 which is shown on the drawings. It is supposed they couldn't
start on this until the old platform was taken out of use, to provide
working room.

-- the message below is a useless rant --

I will move from Stratford in the autumn, so there are no benefits
from the new bridge for me - only inconveniences :-/
But at least I will move to a better place :-D

After a second (much longer) look I must say that I really like the
new station. Simple, elegant, and spacious :-)

I've not yet been up on the platform, but the numbering is now even more
screwed up as announcements about "Platform 4" mean the now closed old DLR
platform...

Well, I guess there will be no confusion, since platform 4 will be
closed in the future. And all announcements about new DLR station will
be heard only near the DLR platforms.

The thing I don't understand now is why the second platform will open
only in the Autumn - it is already finished, and the only bit that
needs to be done is connecting the tracks to the existing rails. So
3-4 months seems quite unreasonable for that.

The construction of the footbridge to the Central line seems to be
quite isolated from both new platforms and should not affect the
tracks in any way...

Yes but what are they calling the new DLR platforms? There's nothing logical
short of redoing the entire station.

So why are most Stratford announcements about specific platforms broadcast
to all and sundry?

As I've mentioned in another post, the TfL website drawings of the upgraded
station show the DLR platforms as 4A and 4B.

One of the passenger focus reports asks for a complete renumbering when the
new NLL platforms, 12A/B, and the new Central line westbound platform, 3A
have all been completed. There will be 19 platform faces ultimately AFAICT.

4a and 4b I think.

This is due to crappy announcement system at Stratford station. DLR
has it's own system, which I believe covers only DLR platform +
northern end of platforms 3 and 5. The DLR announcements are
definitely separate from the main announcement system (which leads to
conflicts when station staff talks over the DLR announcements).

Also noticed: the maps of the DLR at the new platforms include Langdon
Park, Shadwell without East London Line, and completed Woolwich
Arsenal extension - all covered with temporary stickers. I love that
they thought about that in advance! Definitely better then LUL with
their fig leaves over the maps :-)
