However, driving past the other day I notice a lot of clearance work going on, and have to wonder if this means something is actually happening about it. Does anyone know more? Here's what I know... http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...tml#Eastfields Here's what Mr Arquati knows: http://www.alwaystouchout.com/project/55 Here's what Merton Council knows: http://www.merton.gov.uk/press-relea...ls.asp?id=1570 Here's what a blogging local councillor knows: http://whelton.blogspot.com/2007/08/...gets-go-ahead-... In short, it sounds like the station is underway, and, optimistically, hoped to open by December. Interesting stuff - not seen this mentioned before anywhere. The LB Merton press release seems to state that the usual hurdle with any such plans - money - is not a problem in this case, as "Network Rail has received internal approval to fund the construction of the station". Can't help but feel that a December '07 opening date is wildly optimistic, especially given how long it's taken to build Shepherd's Bush station on the WLL. Of course each situation is unique, and frankly I've no idea what the issues are when it comes to building a new station. |
