As you enter Whitechapel underground station from the west, there are
a set of rails set into the ground that seem to run into a building by the track. Does anyone know what they and the building were used for originally? Neill |

I think you are referring to a short, unconnected, non-electrified set
of rails adjacent to the sub-station. |

I think these were provided to allow a hand propelled track trolley to
run between the sub-station (there are access doors) and the EB District Line, which it meets at right-angles. No physical connection but it would allow heavy items to be brought to and from site by engineers' train. |
