There has been so much going on this week, I asked the TfL Press Office for
a simple summary. "TfL have invested Billions upgrading the NLL & WLL, now known as the North London Railway, or the London Overground (your choice), some key points are listed below. A couple of men in a van have fastened banners to all the lamp posts as far as Watford Junction saying "under new management". It is not known if it would have been cheaper to alter the normal signs, but a focus group will be organised, followed by expert consultation. A new station has been opened between Camden Rd and Caledonian Rd & Bloomsbury, just south of the cement terminal. This is to be known as Camden South. Due to Network Rail intransigence, it has had to be jammed in between the Midland Main Line and Kent terminals, at the end of a single track siding. It will be brought up to TfL's standards eventually, in the meantime a temporary roof at the south end allows for increased security staff 24/7. This will be known as a 'Barlow Shed' after its designer, who used to write for 'Corrie'. Platforms - there has been criticism of the platform size at Shepherds Bush. At Camden South, the platforms have been made a ridiculous length and width, and a variety of heights, to make sure they meet anyones requirements, even those of the French. Timetable - a useful side effect of Camden South has been to remove those very long yellow and white trains from the West London Line. This has freed up sufficient capacity to increase the Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction service. There will be an extra train on Sunday mornings, in one direction. Oyster - PAYG will be available from Camden South in due course. It is believed another user's service requires that Paris Nord might have to be in zone 179-198, this will be decided by an Intergovernmental Commision, sometime in 2012, if they've dealt with the Watford Junction issues. Other Stations - another new station, to be known as Stratford North has been built in the centre of a green/brown field site. This will eventually be the biggest station on the DLR, with a dedicated branch line to a big shed at Temple Mills, thought to be a new IKEA. Main line platforms were once thought necessary, it is intended instead to build two of the longest champagne bars in the East End. Phase 2 (unfunded) of the East London Line will eventually extend to Clapham Junction (we have to add that to all rail press statements, not sure why). LOLRO" I thought it was all quite clear, but have doubts about that last bit... Paul S |

Seems they were a bit embarrassed to explain why it's going to take several years to fully convert Lambeth North International into cattle sidings. Perhaps the facilities need to be brought down to standard first, perhaps with the replacement of the glass roof with corrugated iron. |
