![]() Paul Corfield wrote Having just perused the London Connections map I noted the interesting complication that is called Tramlink. This links up various TOC lines and operates on a completely different charging basis. I wonder how PAYG is going to deal with that for "through" journeys! Since, AFAIK, only travelcards and not through tickets from say Purley to Wimbledon are currently valid via Tramlink, I suppose this would be treated as though Tramlink was a tfl bus ? Or are there through fares left over from when Tramlink was a rail link ? -- Mike D |

No idea but it is noticeable that much of the effort is being North of the Thames at present. I find that curious, given that SWT are the TOC with the earliest smartcard ticketing franchise commitment. Apparently much of the delay is because SWT won't implement payg until Waterloo is gated, Also as many articles in Modern Rail have pointed out, SWT are required by the DfT to run an ITSO based system, not an extension to Oyster, and it apparently isn't proving to be easy to make a regional bus and library ticket system work on a railway. The range is / was limited but they were there when Tramlink started. It's possible that I am out of date and they have been withdrawn either through lack of use or because of the charging system used on Tramlink (it effectively has its own zone and is charged at the bus fare rate). -- Paul C |
