Doug (Doug ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they
were saying:

Don't you feel sorry for those who live on that little island amid that
traffic nightmare?

If they moved there before the roads were built, a bit.

When WERE the Blackwall Tunnel and Tunnel Avenue built? :-)

The Blackwall Tunnel was opened in 1897.

The Blackwall Tunnel was opened in 1897.

Tunnel Avenue - the main southerly connection from the tunnel until the
building of the former A102(M) - must be as old.

Anyone moving there since 1897 must have been aware that they were going
to be living on a main traffic artery.
