However, though outside Gtr London, the station is in the TfL-defined zone 6, as is the nearby(ish) Tattenham Corner. Belmont station is on the Epsom Downs line and is in TfL territory. Despite covering prime commuter territory, the Epsom Downs line is not popular, perhaps because its trains take the long route via West Croydon. The line was singled in the 80s when its signal box burned down, limiting the capacity (though it could manage a half-hourly service if it tried). In its heyday it had a dozen or so platforms - mainly used only on race days. That was a different station, slightly further southwest. |

It's also not in the best of locations to accumulate commuters. And there isn't an "Epsom stations" fare option so it's not a valid alternative destination for people with Epsom season tickets. Compared to the much greater number of trains and destinations at Epsom and naturally many commuters opt for there (including myself when I commuted to school despite living closer to Epsom Downs). |

(Belmont is in London and has just the one train an hour) Also no trains on Sundays. -- Mark |

Yes but being in the zones isn't really "covered by TfL" in my book - they don't run the service (although wasn't there talk of the branch being coverted to tram?) and I don't think the buses round there are in Zone 6. |

The busses (166) are covered by all zones travelcards and Oyster as are many sections outside greater London. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloa...kets-and-PAYG- on-buses-outside-London-08-01-02.pdf -- Mark |

It's a lot better than most places, and there's plenty of places in London with that sort of service. And in the area just outside London that is still covered by TfL (like Amersham is), Epsom Downs has only one train an hour. Now *that's* poor service. Sudbury & Harrow Road has a much poorer service. |

Not really, because you can use the Chiltern Service. The last time I was on an Amersham train during the day, it wasn't very full. Out of interest how much does a single from Amersham to Zone 1 cost? |
