I've just had an email referring to plans to move the Stratford London
Overground platforms from 2009/01/02. I phoned the number given in that leaflet to ask what was planned for the current platforms. It seems they will be used for a DLR extension. The person who answered was not able to answer my next question: will the Main Ticket Hall and the Jubilee Line Concourse be joined on the level rather than via escalators, lifts and stairs as currently happens? Can a reader here cast light, please? The leaflet is at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/livetra...London-Overgro und-Stratford-leaflet.pdf -- Walter Briscoe |

The DLR extension was the rationale behind the NLL withdrawal from North Woolwich back in 2006, and the NLL 'move upstairs' has been planned ever since the DLR project was approved. The person who answered was not able to answer my next question: will the Main Ticket Hall and the Jubilee Line Concourse be joined on the level rather than via escalators, lifts and stairs as currently happens? No, because the DLR tracks to/from Stratford International will still pass through the station as present, although apparently the DLR platform areas will start a bit south of the existing ones. http://developments.dlr.co.uk/extens...ford/index.asp Paul |

No, because the tracks through the middle will also be reused by the DLR, to reach Stratford International. Indeed. It's is a rather odd arrangement for their to be tracks running through a station concourse - though of course the alignment came first, the concourse being pretty recent innovation, as it's a result of the mid/late 90's rebuild of Stratford station for the Jubilee Line Extension. It rather puts me in mind of the old arrangement at Waterloo, whereby there was a little-used line that ran through the concourse linking the L&SWR's mainlines with the SER's lines at what is now called Waterloo East (the cast iron bridge over Waterloo Road being a remnant of this). |

It was a bit like that at Liverpool Street, where two platforms went much further back and if you were walking along the concourse near the buffers you'd have to go up the stairs to the walkway to get across (or walk a long way round). |

This was a remnant of the link between the Great Eastern and the Metropolitan Railway, was it not? Afraid that's a bit before my time - I've only ever known the 'new' Liverpool St. |

Jubilee remains inconveniently connected to streets and the bus station. -- Walter Briscoe |

I think I was dithering about what to say, that said I can't see to whom I could possibly have contemplated referring to in the course of such a sentence. Ouch. to be tracks running through a station concourse - though of course the alignment came first, the concourse being pretty recent innovation, as it's a result of the mid/late 90's rebuild of Stratford station for the Jubilee Line Extension. OK, I see. Were they the platforms that appear in these photos? http://gallery120232.fotopic.net/p10601006.html http://gallery120232.fotopic.net/p14105313.html http://gallery120232.fotopic.net/p13277464.html If so, are the stairs to that bridge those which are visible to the left hand side of this photo? http://gallery120232.fotopic.net/p13277470.html (Thanks Mr Tolley!) |

I must admit that my memories of the old Liverpool Street are fading somewhat. |
