The Times is spreading a rumour that the government is withdrawing
support for further tram extensions in London as they are considered
not to be economically viable. Other sources, particularly those at
the 4th Annual Rapid Transit & Light Rail Conference,
suggest that this rumour is untrue.

Considering the speed at which even the approved schemes are not being
built I doubt that decision even if it is true will make any noticable
difference for years.
