writes Do trains ever run down these tunnels or are they just for emergencies only or derelict? In many cases they're used as stabling sidings. Does anyone know if they have special exits to the street at the end, since if a train did run down there and be stabled how would the driver get out , would he have to walk down the track back to the terminus station? Firstly, he can walk down the train to the other end. After that, if the line is intended as a stabling siding there will be a walkway or passageway from that point. Otherwise, yes, he'd have to walk along the track. -- Clive D.W.
