Never mind people who need to commute to work so long as all the muggers, gang members and other lowlife can get to their yearly knees up on time. Yes, all half a million plus of them on the Monday. Whatever you say Boltar. I'll see you down there? Heh , if I want to watch drug dealers, groups of skinny blokes with big dogs trying to look tough and listen to **** music I can just wander down to my local council carpark after midnight on saturdays. Better to be closed for Thursday to Sunday when the carnival is on, but the general network is quieter during the week (the couple of days before the August Bank Holiday are less busy than normal) than a Friday to Monday long weekend at a busier time of year. There are a LOT of tourists and non-lowlife who attend the carnival. Every other holiday or event (there were some major events at wembley and the dome recently where the jubilee was closed but TfL just gave everyone the finger) is prime time for engineering works on the tubes and the trains, yet the liberal lefty establishments poster child event is somehow spared even when the bakerloo line isn't even that important in this case. Funny that. The alternative view is that the Monday is available in case the work overruns, but they are using this contigency day to give a service on the busiest day of the year in the area. |

I haven't used the bakerloo line in about 5 years and don't live anywhere near notting hill. I just find the hypocracy of TfL and the indifference to its main customers sticks in the throat somewhat. It's not very complicated - the Bakerloo line is an important element in shifting the crowds to and from the carnival. It's not some dastardly liberal conspiracy. Oh, sorry, it is because you say so. Must tell that to the traffic planners - seems they're foolishly still working in the real world. |

You're right - the Bakerloo line should definitely be shut on the day when the largest street carnival in Europe happens, regardless of the fact it skirts and hence serves the area. In fact, we might as well ban the carnival, that's surely the easiest course of action, I can't see any possible problems with doing that. When are you running for Mayor? |

It's not some Given where the carnival takes place I can't see how the closed section is particularly vital. Is there a large "posse" coming from from Elephant then? Or perhaps all the tourists at Oxford Circus will suddenly decide to take the long way round on the line with the worst service. B2003 |

A lot of the locals who live on the streets the procession happens on wouldn't be too upset about that from some of the interviews I've seen on TV. B2003 |
