Lewisham train disaster1957 - names of victims
There's a letter this weeek in my local newspaper (News Shopper) from
a woman who's trying to compile her family tree. Her aunt was killed
in the Lewisham train crash. She's lost touch with...

Elephant and Castle - Greasy Spoon..?
Until I moved jobs six months ago I used to frequent quite a nice one
in Waterloo Rd, just north of St George' Circus, almost next door to a
dentist. Can't remember the name.

Bottled water on tube
During the hot spell last week the announcer at Westminster Tube was
advising passengers to carry bottled water with them.
As far as I know the tube has been operating for over 100 yeras
without any...

ELL in peril yet again
I've never understood why all the southern extensions will run from
New X Gate rather than being shared between New X Gate and New X. As
a result passengers from outer South-East London will hardly...

Help with choice of London-Airport transfers
Quickest and most comfortable way from Heathrow to hotel is probably
to take Heathrow Express train to Paddington and taxi from there (may
be a queue for taxis at that time). Quite expensive...

CrossRail or CrossConnections? Guns or butter?

Oh dear. You've made the classic mistake of people who plan these
frequencies. What you are describing is a line. What we need is a
network. As soon as your journey involves a change, 4...

CrossRail or CrossConnections? Guns or butter?
I agree that South East London needs better transport, and that Crossrail
isn't it. (I think it's mildly ridiculous that it won't serve Woolwich, for
a start). But I definitely don't think...

CrossRail or CrossConnections? Guns or butter?
" It will effectively bring the tube to London's busiest national
rail line
(Liverpool St - Shenfield), provide a new fast link from North Kent to
Docklands, the city and West End, provide a...

ON Network - any better?
Anybody know why the North Kent line was chosen as a pilot in
preference to the Bexleyheath and Sidcup lines? It seems perverse
that the areas which already benefit from the Jubilee Line...

tube lines south of the river
Either way, this won't be much of an issue for south/southeast London much
longer - as long as no one else tries to screw things up, the East London Line
extensions will be open in 2005 (?) and...

Lyndhurst Road station - petition
Queen's Road Battersea became Queenstown Road, both in fact and as a station name.
With a 40 year gap before the railway caught up with the road.

I agree the whole thing looks politically motivated, but in this case I
don't think that's really a bad thing. The eastern end of the Thames really
does need regenerating, and Canary...
